The information is transmitted by the SUNA Live Traffic Updates service operated by Intelematics Australia. New Zealand data is collected from 'probe' vehicles that report their location and speed, augmented with information from The Radio Network's Time Saver Traffic service, the New Zealand Transport Agency, emergency services, and local governments.
"SUNA Traffic Channel will help motorists better navigate New Zealand's busiest roads by providing real-time traffic updates so drivers are aware of incidents that are causing traffic delays," said Intelematics Australia CEO Adam Game. "This information will allow drivers to better plan their journey, avoid areas of congestion and reach their destination on time. Even if a faster alternative isn't available, accurate information on time of arrival can reduce stress and contribute to a safer driving environment."
Other Intelematics Australia partners are expected to start offering the service to their New Zealand customers starting later this year.
