It was announced yesterday that the first Nokia phone using the Windows Phone OS, the Lumia 800, will be available through all major vendors as of March 2012. The Lumia 800, which is available in a number of colours including black, cyan, meganta and white is described by Nokia as delivering a great all-round smartphone experience.
The phone itself will be boasting a 3.7' ClearBlack AMOLED display, have 16GB of internal memory with the addition of 5GB SkyDrive storage, have an 8MP camera using a Carl Zeiss lens and offering HD video as well as other services unique to Nokia smartphones such as Nokia Music's Mix radio, a service that allows users to stream hours of music for free and Nokia drive, which is available in more than 100 countries turning the handset into a fully-featured sat nav.
In a statement by Nokia Australia's managing director, Chris Carr, it was stated that 'Nokia Lumia will change the way people think about Nokia. It signifies a new beginning for the company, bringing together the very best of Nokia's handset design and services with the latest Windows Phone software.'
With Carr going on to add 'with uptake from all Australian operators and major retailers, the launch of the Nokia Lumia 800 signals our intent to regain leadership in smartphone design and usability.' But only time will tell if Nokia is able to claw back some ground in the ever increasingly competitive smartphone market.
