Toshiba Tablet is thinnest, lightest 10.1in tablet, says Toshiba

We've had the Sony Tablet and the Toshiba Tablet AT100, now meet the Toshiba Tablet AT200. It might have an unimaginative name, but Toshiba reckons it is the thinnest and lightest in its class.

What is it with Japanese vendors? Apple (US) has the iPad, Samsung (Korea) has the Galaxy Tab, but the best names that Sony and Toshiba could think up were the Sony Tablet and the Toshiba Tablet.

Nor, it seems, could Toshiba come up with a new angle when it came to styling. The Toshiba Tablet AT200 bears a distinct visual similarity to the iPad and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

So what does it have going for it? The company claims it is the thinnest (7.7mm) and lightest (535g) 10.1in tablet. That's 1.1mm and 66g less than the iPad 2, and 0.9mm and 25g less than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. (Is such a small difference in size or weight significant for you? Post a comment in our forums.)

Other features include a 1280x800 display with Gorilla Glass, Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), mini HDMI port, microSD slot, micro USB 2.0 port, and 16GB of built-in storage.

Dual cameras (2MP front and 5MP rear) and "outstanding" stereo sound quality round out the package.

Originally announced last September at the IFA consumer electronics and home appliance exhibition in Berlin, the Toshiba Tablet is due to ship in February. List price is $579.
