TomTom app hooks into social networks

Your IT - Mobility

An update to the TomTom app for the iPhone and iPad includes Facebook and Twitter integration. Sounds like over-sharing to us.

If you're going to run a GPS navigation app on your iPhone or iPad, it makes sense to be able to grab locations from other apps without having to re-enter them. The obvious place is the contacts list, but the forthcoming TomTom 1.1 app goes a step further by retrieving locations from Facebook events, places and friends.

"According to recent studies, the vast majority of iPhone users use Facebook on their iPhone" says Corinne Vigreux, TomTom's consumer managing director. "By integrating Facebook features into our TomTom App we make navigating to places, events and seeing friends even easier."

So far, so good. But the updated app also allows sharing the user's destination and arrival time on Facebook and Twitter. Email and SMS are also supported, which makes more sense.

The update will be available sometime this quarter.
