TeleChoice offers 'free' phone on short-commitment $5 plan

With all of the smartphones and bells and whistles around these days, it's easy to assume that providers have forgotten those looking for a low-cost option for making the odd call. TeleChoice has its sights on that segment.

Some people just want a basic mobile phone so they can make the occasional call and other people can reach them. And never mind plans that cost an arm and a leg - they're thinking in terms of a fingernail.

Samsung E3210

Generally speaking, this audience is best served by prepaid plans with decent expiry periods. But there normally an upfront cost for the handset.

TeleChoice is offering a $0 upfront Samsung E3210 or E2230 handset when you sign up on a $5 per month Optus plan for a minimum of six months. The outright price of the E2230 is $59.

"When it comes to low-cost handsets, it doesn't always suit consumers to be locked into 12 or 24 month contracts," said CEO Ehab Abdou,

"We're proud to offer Australians the opportunity to get a bonus mobile phone at the lowest available cost per month with no ongoing commitment. Australia has asked for it and we have listened. No other plan in Australia will give you as much value and as much freedom as this deal," he added.
