Vodafone keeps Tabs on the new Samsung tablet

Vodafone has sent an email to customers with details on how they can get their hands on the much hyped Galaxy Tab 10.1, the 'iPad killer' previously banned in Australia but finally available down under.

The email proclaims that the device is 'available first at Vodafone', and says it will be 'exclusively' shipping from December 16, which happens to be four days ago.

The two plans on offer include a 12 month plan, in which the Tab is $0 upfront then $65 a month over 12 months, for a total minimum cost of $780. The plan also includes 1.5GB of monthly data.

The other plan is a 24 month plan, with the device again $0 upfront and then $39 a month over 24 months, with a total minimum cost of $936. It also includes 1.5GB of monthly data.

The long delayed release follows months of legal battles between Samsung and Apple in Australia and across the globe, over alleged patent infringements.

Samsung recently capitalized on the hype, describing the Tab 10.1 in an advertisement as being 'the tablet Apple tried to stop.'

Time will tell if the hype translates directly into sales, but keen users can order the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Vodafone here.

Optus has also pledged to stock the new device, but there's been no word from the other carriers as of yet.
