The latest addition to Asus' Zenbook family features a 1.4GHz Core i3 processor.

Asus has expanded its Zenbook family of ultrabooks with a low-end model featuring a Core i3 processor and a 11.6in display.

Other specifications include 4GB RAM, a 64GB SSD, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, microHDMI and mini VGA video outputs, a webcam, Bluetooth, and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower SonicMaster audio.

The unit is 3mm thick at the front, and 17mm thick at the widest point. Asus officials claim a two-second resume time, and a battery life of up to five hours.

"The Zenbook with Intel Core i3 processor rounds out the Zenbook range," said Vivian Hung, regional head of Asus' system business group. "Now, no matter how you use your computer - whether you spend most of your time browsing websites, watching videos or creating documents, or require advanced multi-tasking, extreme gaming or video editing capabilities - there is an Asus Aenbook to suit you."

The Zenbook i3 model is priced at $1099. Previously, the cheapest model in the range was $1399. Acer recently announced a $999 ultrabook.
