Ice Cream Sandwich coming for three, maybe four LG smartphones

The Android market continues to fragment with LG announcing that only half of its currently available handsets are in line for the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

In a brief statement, LG has stated that as few as three of its existing Android handsets may be upgradable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The phones that will definitely be getting the upgrade are the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, and the Optimus 3D. Of those, only the Optimus 2X is already running Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The Gingerbread upgrade is expected for the Optimus 3D in January 2012, and for the Optimus Black in 1Q12.

LG's Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade schedule will be announced next month, and may include additional handsets. However, the Optimus Spirit is the only other model that LG mentioned as being evaluated for the upgrade.
