Westfield fields a Facebook deal

Westfield has joined forces with Facebook to offer in-centre discounts, amid a struggling retail environment.

Australian shoppers will finally have something to smile about with Westfield launching Facebook Check In Deals, including benefits of better value and personalised offers for shoppers across all Westfield centres nationally.

In an Australian first, Westfield is trialling the new technology in partnership with selected speciality retailers including Angus & Coote and Cotton On.

When using Facebook Places to check in at Westfield centres, shoppers will be alerted to special discounts available in-store.

Westfield's General Manager of Marketing, John Batistich, said the launch of Facebook Check In Deals throughout Westfield centres nationally is a significant step forward for the retail industry, providing retailers with the opportunity to target shoppers with localised deals and bridging the gap from the web to the stores.

'Retail, and particularly the way we can now target shoppers with special deals and discounts, has changed dramatically over the past decade.  With tools such as Facebook Check In Deals we're now able to communicate to our shoppers in relevant and localised ways,' says John.

Shoppers using Facebook's mobile application will be able to share the deals with their own online communities through the share functionality, posting them on their news feeds.

During the first week of the trial, launching on Monday 15 August, shoppers can check in at any Westfield centre to receive 30% off all full-priced jewellery at Angus & Coote.  The next offer will be from Cotton On with 30% off all full-priced items.

To redeem these offers, shoppers have to check in from the Facebook Places application in any Westfield centre nationally.
