Construction needs cloud flexibility

Australia’s embattled construction sector could benefit from cloud based information systems that can be switched on and off in lockstep with individual projects – with the exception of those organisations based in remote areas like the Kimberleys.

HTC goes 3D and evolves into EVO

Your IT - Mobility

No, HTC is not rewriting the story of Adam and Evo, but instead, launching a glasses-free 3D Android-powered smartphone to compete with LG and the rest of the Google-lovin' smartphone world.

With 3D being all the rage in cinemas, despite some people quite vocal about no being that impressed with 3D movie technology, especially with the need to wear fiddly glasses, it's fascinating to see smartphones go glasses-free 3D.

However, while you'll need no glasses to see the tri-dimensional effects HTC's new Evo 3D can muster, nor will you need any to capture 3D videos or photos, the amount of commercial 3D content is still pretty slim.

Of course, there are 3D YouTube videos out there - probably 3D cats playing on 3D pianos or something - and with your own 3D smartphone, you can make all the 3D video clips and photos you want.

And, with glasses-free 3DTV being developed, if still not likely some years away from retail stores, it looks like we really are in a brave new 3D world at last, with the first proper 3D smartphones now available.

Unfortunately, availability does not guarantee customers, so just because 3D smartphones are available does not mean you'll buy one, but if prices and specs are similar, getting 3D may well be better than not getting it. It's a decision you'll need to make for yourself.

You'll have a bit of time, too - HTC isn't launching its Evo 3D until sometime in September, despite the fact that LG's 3D Android is in some shops now.

Ben Hodgson, HTC's Country Manager in Australian and NZ said: 'The HTC EVO 3D is a device that reflects how HTC is pushing the limits of innovation, bringing the best technology and more choice to our Australian customers.

'This beautifully designed and powerful device continues the HTC tradition of putting the customer first in everything we do. It opens new frontiers for all customers looking to add a new dimension to their viewing experience.

'3D has revolutionised the way customers experience content and the highly-customisable HTC EVO 3D will change the way customers interact with their devices and how they create and share their experiences with friends and family.'
