Huawei is claiming three 'world firsts' with its new multimode USB dongles and a WiMAX/HSPA Android 2.2 handset.

Huawei has launched the B8200 (the world's first WiMAX/HSPA dual-mode handset with Android 2.2), the E398 (the world's first commercial LTE TDD/FDD dual-mode USB dongle), and the E392 (the world's first LTE TDD/FDD/UMTS/GSM multi-mode USB dongle).

The B8200 handles multiple frequencies, including UMTS 900/2100MHz, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800MHz, and WiMAX 2.5GHz

The E392 is said to be capable of peak data rates up to 100Mbps, while the E392 can support global roaming and switches easily between different networks. It will go on sale in volume later this year.

"Choosing the SingleRAN solution to build convergent mobile networks and adopting multi-mode device solutions have been validated by the global industry chain," said Deng Taihua, president of Huawei WiMAX/TDS/LTE networks.

"Huawei's convergent end-to-end solutions can assist operators avoid the risks of technology choice and network evolution, maximise the value of key assets, release the pressure from the rapid increase of mobile broadband traffic and users, and help realise business success."

A local Huawei spokesperson said the company had trialled LTE with Telstra and Vodafone, and TD-LTD with vividwireless.
