A new piece of software has slithered onto the marketplace, allowing anyone to create their own apps for any of the major platforms including iPads and iPhones, Android and Android Honeycomb, all without requiring any programming skills.

 

No knowledge of Python or any programming language for that matter is necessary for AppCobra, launched today by Australia's Kookaburra studios.

David Webster, Managing Director of Kookaburra Studios, said anyone with basic computer skills using a Windows PC can now create their own apps for a wide range of smart phones and tablets without requiring technical programming skills by using the AppCobra development tool.

The product will retail for $A250 from the www.appcobra.com website.

Video and audio can also be included in the AppCobra developed apps.

Mr. Webster said whether it's your favourite footy team, movie star or pop singer, or as an educational or business app, you can design and create your own and have it up and running on your phone or tablet device within 15 minutes.

'AppCobra works on PC's in a visual drag and drop environment. It's very much a what-you-see-is-what-you-get approach,' Mr. Webster said.

'You can create an app once and it can then run on multiple devices. However, the apps run at their optimum when created for specific devices

'AppCobra is a perfect tool for creating apps for catalogues, medical services, software simulations, quizzes, assessments, ebooks, training, photo libraries and simple games.

'We cover all mobile phones and tablets - iPhone/ iPad, Android, the new Android Honeycomb platform, HP webOS, Windows mobile, Blackberry. Even the up and coming Chrome netbooks. Microsoft has also claimed that HTML5 will be the main development process for Windows 8 apps as well. This is right up AppCobra's alley.'

HTML5, WebKit CSS, simple and advanced swiping, scrolling, indexing, thumbnails, PowerPoint imports, e-book features and accelerometer/orientation/geolocation support are all included in the AppCobra package.

A range of clipart is also provided with the product. AppCobra appears designed specifically to generate interactive, highly graphical informational and educational games. An API is included, allowing programmers using the software to enhance and customize apps further.

Various interactive abilities, such as asking questions (like multiple choice, fill in the blanks, drop-down lists) can be presented to the user and scored as the created app is running.

This allows not only information to be presented, but also allows assessments, tests, and training to be presented and scored by the app.
