After launching several single-core smartphones earlier this year in the face of several dual-core competitors announced and launched their models, HTC's dual-core Sensation is finally set to cause a sensation for HTC and Telstra-lovin' smartphoners.
The iPhone 5 may well be going into production in August, if media reports can be believed, with an expected launch date sometime in September or October, but Android-powered competitors aren't waiting.
Indeed, with the iPhone still so very iPopular, Android smartphone makers need to get their models out there as fast as possible, especially seeing as most smartphones are purchased on two year contracts, something that normally locks out most consumers from buying another new phone until that contract period is up.
So, although single-core smartphones still rule the smartphone roost, with the vast majority of apps written for single-core smartphones, it's still important to not only make a dual-core statement, but to actually have dual-core products at the high-end for those that want the extra power and speed that dual-core products promise.
That's why HTC has been able to successfully launch a range of single-core smartphones, from the entry-level through to higher-end models, as they are still the most common type of phone, and are now cheaper than dual-core models, but it's also why HTC's non-launching of a dual-core model until 'now' has finally come to an end, with Telstra the chosen one for HTC's new dual-core hotness.
Now, while a paper launch for the HTC Sensation has now occurred, Telstra customers seeking to upgrade will have to wait a little longer until sometime in July before the phones are available to the public.
To celebrate the launch of the HTC Sensation, Telstra's Director of Mobile Products, Andrew Volard, collared the situation head-on with a statement of confirmatory delight in his statement that 'Telstra will bring the Android-powered HTC Sensation to Australia.'
Billed by Telstra as an 'epic multimedia smartphone', something Nokia tried valiantly to make us believe for last year's N8, Telstra boasts the Sensation comes with a 'lightning-fast 1.2 gigahertz dual core processor, which enables gorgeous graphics, quick web browsing and all-around fast performance.'
We're also told of the 'stunning 4.3-inch qHD display that supports high-resolution video, web browsing and gaming', along with the promise of 'in-built Hi-Fi audio and virtual surround sound' for an 'ultimate multimedia smartphone'.
