A new version of the iOS viewer for LogMeIn's join.me screen sharing service allows users to talk to each other during a session.
Screen sharing is an increasingly popular way of providing demonstrations, slideshows and remote support. On one hand, screen sharing was added to Skype last year, and some screen-sharing applications provide voice capabilities.
The latest version of the join.me
app for iOS (which supports both the iPhone and the iPad) adds VoIP audio conferencing capability. Other features include chat, remote control, and file transfer.
"In the few months since we launched
join.me, the response from users has been overwhelmingly positive and their feedback has been valuable in shaping the service's evolution," said Kevin Bardos, vice president of collaboration technologies at LogMeIn.
"The new features are all designed to keep simplicity and accessibility central to the join.me experience, providing users with an even greater ability to work together and collaborate as if they were sitting in the same room."
Although there is also an Android version of the app, the current version does not include VoIP. The host component runs on Windows or Mac OS X.
The paid version of the service (from $US29 per month) adds international conference lines (the free version only offers US-based dial-in lines), the option of invitation-only meetings, a meeting scheduler and more.
