Nokia keeps Australian customers waiting for E6 and X7

Nokia has announced a new pair of smartphones - the E6 and X7 - but they won't be here for months.

Nokia's announcement - perhaps pre-announcement would be a better term - of its E6 and X7 is tempered with the news that the new Symbian 'Anna' based smartphones won't be available in Australia until the third quarter.



Rather than taking the mullet approach ('business up front, party in the back'), Nokia is continuing its strategy of aiming different models at the business and entertainment markets.

The E6 is the serious phone with a full QWERTY keyboard and a touchscreen, while the entertainment oriented X7 features a 4in display, a 8MP still/video camera, and the Galaxy on Fire and Asphalt 5 games. The exteriors of both models are made of stainless steel and glass.

"We are further strengthening Nokia's smartphone portfolio with these two new devices, both of which offer a more beautiful and intuitive user experience that will soon also be available for the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01," said Jo Harlow, head of Nokia's smart devices business.

The Symbian update features new icons, improved text input, a faster internet browsing experience and a refreshed Ovi Maps application with improved search and new public transport routes.
