Mercedes-Benz has become the latest manufacturer or importer to make SUNA live traffic updates part of its in-car navigation systems.

Mercedes-Benz is making SUNA live traffic updates a standard feature of the GPS systems in S-class and E-class cars. It is the first European prestige car manufacturer to do so.

SUNA Traffic Channel provides live traffic information such as details of congestion and roadworks. The information is available via FM radio or the Internet, and can be used by GPS navigation devices to either warn drivers of possible delays or to automatically reroute around problem areas.

"As a European manufacturer with years of experience integrating live traffic data throughout the world, Mercedes-Benz understands the value of traffic information and its ability to enhance the driving experience by helping motorists evaluate and respond quickly to road conditions," said Adam Game, CEO of Intelematics Australia, the RACV subsidiary that operates SUNA.

Last year's major upgrade to SUNA to deliver more detailed road coverage and higher precision "was a catalyst in the decision by Mercedes-Benz to integrate our service into their vehicles," said Mr Game. The service covers Adelaide Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.

Horst von Sanden, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said "As one of the world's leading providers of premium vehicles we are continually striving to improve the capabilities of our vehicles. SUNA is a welcome addition and one we believe our customers will gain enormous benefit from."

The company is expected to announce SUNA support on additional models later this year.
