Concur has announced a significant change in strategy - the company says it will abandon its mobile travel and expense management system in favour of TripIt's product.
Travel and expense management provider
Concur released
a new version of its mobile app for Android, BlackBerry, iPhone and iPad earlier this month. But it seems the app may be short lived.
The company has now announced that it is abandoning its own app in favour of the one provided by
TripIt. This is part of a plan to integrate TripIt with Concur's travel and expense management services.
This plan calls for all of the capabilities of Concur's app will be added to TripIt by the end of 2011. TripIt services will remain free, but users who are also Concur customers will see additional features including receipt management, and expense entry, submission and approvals.
"Concur's record of mobile travel and expense innovation is unmatched in the industry," said Rajeev Singh, president and COO of Concur. "Our mobile solution already enables travellers to manage many aspects of their business travel, like capturing receipts with their phone's camera; submitting, reviewing and approving expenses while on the go; booking hotels, cars and rail - all from their mobile device while they're on the road.
"Now, we're integrating all of TripIt's available features - including itinerary management and trip sharing, flight tracking and refund alerts, frequent flyer points tracking and other exclusive privileges - giving clients access to the best of both solutions through one mobile app. With Tripit and Concur working seamlessly together, we're making life easier for travellers while providing their companies with an even greater level of visibility and cost control."
The integration of trips between Concur and TripIt will also mean that parts of the itinerary not booked through Concur will be available to Concur.
