Vodafone has done a global deal to launch Google's Nexus S in 24 countries, including Australia, but price and actual availability details are still top secret!
Vodafone, the company that some treat as 'Vodagone' following ongoing voice and data issues for some Australian Vodafone customers, has ogled the Nexus S and has decided to go Google.
With the new distribution deal unveiled via a
global announcement, Vodafone proclaimed from upon high that the 'Nexus S will soon be available in Vodafone stores around the world', although exact pricing and availability details are still to come.
Google's Nexus S is the successor to the original Google Nexus One 'superphone'. When Google's Nexus One ceased selling to the public, some pundits thought it was the end of the Nexus experiement, even as many other pundits wondered when the Nexus Two would find itself doing the do on the world stage, in direct competition with all of the existing Android handset manufacturing partners.
Well, the Nexus Two did appear, but it was instead called the Nexus S, presumably in partial homage to Samsung's very popular Galaxy S series of Android smartphones, with Samsung replacing HTC as Nexus handset maker of choice, and with the Nexus S coming with some notable features, from the first usage of Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread, through to a slightly curved glass touch-screen, a built in NFC chip and even an 'off' sequence that looks just like an old CRT TV turning off, amongst many other worthy inclusions.
The somewhat embattled Australian arm of Vodafone has republished the international announcement while also unveiling a
local pre-registration page, where interested Australians can pre-registered their interest and get more information directly from Voda when the Nexus S makes it official local landing.
Vodafone's Group Director of Terminals, Patrick Chomet, probably wishes he had a job title that didn't sound so terminal, but nevertheless managed to amp up the excitement, saying: ''It's great news that our customers will very soon be able to get Google's Nexus S direct through our stores.
"At Vodafone we work closely with our partners across the industry to offer our customers a leading smartphone range that includes the latest innovations in product and user experience", concluded the hopefully chummy Mr Chomet.
