Turn-by-turn Navigon satnav for Samsung Galaxy S

Your IT - Mobility

Samsung Galaxy S owners can now install Navigon's MobileNavigator turn-by-turn navigation app free of charge.

Previously offered for the Galaxy Tab, Samsung and Navigon have extended their collaboration to bring the MobileNavigator app to the Galaxy S mobile phone. The turn-by-turn navigation software requires Android 2.2, but a free Android upgrade is available to owners of older handsets.

The app includes Navteq maps for Australia and New Zealand, so no data charges are incurred when using it.

Features include 2D and 3D map views, turn-by-turn voice guidance, and routing that takes into account the time and day, and personal driving style.

Optional extras are available at introductory prices until December 31.

Safety & Relax ($12.95) provides lane assistance and warns of speed and red light cameras, school zones, and the vehicle's speed.

Traffic Live ($19.95) delivers real-time traffic information from SUNA and routes drivers around congested roads.

Sound & Fun ($9.95) adds text-to-speech capability and international voices in different dialects.

Navigon has indicated that the Traffic Live package will cost around $30 from January 1, 2011.

The Navigon app is available from the Android Market.
