Dell's 5-inch Android OS tablet originally came with the ancient Android OS 1.6, and for this I gave it a bit of an Obama-like shellacking, but the news has just landed in my inbox that the Streak has struck Android OS 2.2 gold, meaning a generous dollop of frozen yoghurt for Dell Streakers!
Dell's Streak is a 5-inch Android OS smartphone tablet, coming months before Samsung's 7-inch Galaxy Tab hit the market, but originally only coming with Android OS 1.6.
The large 5-inch screen delivers a tablet-esque experience, larger than 4-inch and smaller Android phones, while not being as big as the still jacket-pocketable Galaxy Tab.
Android OS 2.2 is what was missing from the Dell Streak experience, and although it was promised to arrive before the end of the year, which it now has, the older OS was definitely a source of frustration for some, especially when several other handsets have had Android OS 2.2 upgrades made available.
But that's now all in the past, with Dell Streak owners in Australia, on the Optus network, now able to get the long-awaited 2.2 update.
Dell's Australian Streak page lists the following information about the OS 2.2 update:
'Now you can enjoy a faster, richer experience with the Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS. Dell Streak with Android 2.2 includes the Stage User Interface (UI) and a collection of widgets that bring your content such as music, photos and email to your homescreen.
'It even includes Adobe Flash 10.1 support for the full mobile Web experience and the capability to use your Dell Streak as a portable WiFi hotspot that can be shared with up to eight other devices.'
So'¦ if you're an Dell Streak owner in Australia'¦ it's time to update and enjoy a whole new way to stroke your Streak.
The jury's still out on whether the Streak will inherit the Earth, given the incredible competition in the smartphone and tablet marketplaces, but at long last, if you seek the 2.2 Streak update, ye shall find it!
