Skype gets silky Symbian/Nokia upgrade

Your IT - Mobility

If you've got one of Nokia's new N8, C7 or E5 phones, or any other new Nokia model, and you've wanted to use Skype, you'll be delighted to know that new compatible Skype versions are now available!

Owners of the latest Nokia handsets who've wanted access to Skype's improved voice quality through its 'SILK high quality audio codec' can now get their Skypisfaction on through shiny new Skype versions.

Announced over at Skype's blog, the improved quality will make owners of Nokia N8, C7 and E5 phones happy chappies and chappettes.

Skype says 'the update also contains a number of interface improvements, making it easier to add contacts, navigate, add a photo to your profile and set your mood message. Additionally, we've updated the interface to better fit larger screens.'

Even better for those on less than optimal cellular data networks is the claim that the SILK 'high quality audio codec' not only makes sure 'your calls are crystal clear', but Skype says this is so 'even when you're on a low-bandwidth connection'.

Skype reminds us that its software lets us 'make free Skype-to-Skype calls and IM on 3G or WiFi', 'save money on calls and texts to phones abroad' and 'share pictures, videos and other files from your phone'.

It's good to see Skype not forgetting to update its popular app for the Symbian platform. iPhones and Androids may be all the rage but Nokia is still strong player!
