Cascade launches app for beer without peer

Your IT - Mobility

Cascade Brewery is about to launch a free iPhone app called the Cascade Brewer's Nose this month, featuring more than 500 Australian and international brews.

The app will be a one stop guide for any beer fan and cater to increasingly curious beer aficionados' thirst for knowledge on the art of brewing and matching their favourite beers to food.

The Cascade Brewer's Nose app has been created in response to an increasing desire for beer lovers to understand different beer styles, try new brews and share this new-found knowledge with friends. The app features information on not only the Cascade range of beers, but most readily available Australian and international brews, including an overview of the 14 main beer styles and a series of food matches to help users find the perfect dish to accompany their favourite ale or lager.

The appe is the world's first iPhone app focused on beer to use barcode scanning technology, allowing users to easily scan their beer using the iPhone camera, view videos, read and submit tasting notes and keep a log of the brews they've tried to date. By using GPS technology and Facebook Connect, the Cascade iPhone app also allows users to track their beer-loving friends via Facebook, see what brews they have been sampling and where, as well as store a log of the beers they have tried themselves alongside their own tasting notes.

Users can search for the closest stores, pubs and bars that stock their favourite Cascade beers via GPS technology.

Cascade enlisted the help of local chef, Rodney Dunn of the Agrarian Kitchen in Lachlan, Tasmania and esteemed beer writer, Matt Kirkegaard to assist with content development. By combining their expertise, with that of Cascade brewers, Cascade has provided beer fans a Master Brewer in their pocket with the Cascade Brewer's Nose a comprehensive guide to all things beer, brewing and food matching.

In a release, a Cascade representative described it as "an exciting initiative for any beer enthusiast looking to increase their knowledge and expand their beer tasting repertoire, as well as those keen to explore the increasingly popular world of beer and food matching, with Rodney Dunn's tips including pairing Cascade Pale Ale with Italian pork and fennel sausages and Cascade Stout with good quality dark chocolate."

The Cascade Brewer's Nose app is currently with Apple awaiting release on the iPhone App Store, and is expected to be available by the end of the month.
