BlackBerry Maps reach Australia

Your IT - Mobility

BlackBerry's maps and direction app has been around for a few years, and is at last available to users in Australia and New Zealand.

BlackBerry Maps displays maps and turn-by-turn directions. Like Google Maps, it relies on a data connection to deliver the information. Other apps, such as Navigon's software for Android plus various iPad/iPhone products, store the maps on the device allowing use where mobile service is not available and also without ongoing costs.

Features of BlackBerry Maps include location bookmarks, integration with the contacts list, and support for GPS-enabled handsets and Bluetooth-enabled GPS receivers for improved location accuracy.

BlackBerry Maps will be automatically pushed to handsets with a code of 4.2 or later. Owners of older handsets can download the app here.

On handsets running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2 or later, BlackBerry Maps provides an API allowing developers of other apps to incorporate mapping and location information.
