Optus first to carry the Torch for BlackBerry

Your IT - Mobility

Optus has become the first operator to offer the new BlackBerry Torch smartphone, released in Australia yesterday.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 is the first device to use the new BlackBerry 6 operating system. It will be available to both Optus businesses and consumer customers for $0 upfront on $79 pricing plans on 24 month contracts. However the business and consumer packages will differ. BlackBerry says it will be offered by VHA and Telstra "in coming months".

Business customers can purchase the BlackBerry Torch on the $79 Business Complete Ultimate plan, which includes $900 call and text 'value' and unlimited BlackBerry POP3 email and web browsing via the BlackBerry browser, plus 1GB additional mobile Internet data.

Business customers also get unlimited BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging, unlimited voicemail, unlimited SMS to Australian GSM mobiles and unlimited voice calls to services on the same Optus account, all within Australia.

For an extra $10 per month, business customers can also add a Business Advantage mobile broadband plan which comes with a USB modem and 500MB of data. This gives them a total of 1.5GB of data per month that can be used across the BlackBerry or the device connected to the USB modem.
