Will Windows Phone be able to resist the challenge of iOS, Android and BlackBerry? A recent report by Gartner suggested that Microsoft Australia's CEO's summation that Windows phone is a "challenger brand" is spot on. However, Microsoft is a challenger with significant resources, an active developer community and the will to resume their strength in the smartphone market.
It wasn't so long ago that Palm was the leader in handheld computing. Microsoft was able then to enter the market, challenge and then dominate. Now, they're in the position of being overtaken by the competition and having to respond.
Will Windows Phone succeed? Only time will really tell but it's clear that Microsoft has invested heavily in their new mobile OS and are backing that up with partnerships with many manufacturers and carriers.
