IceTV, a provider of interactive TV listings for free-to-air TV in Australia, has launched new technology which allows users to program a video recorder from anywhere, using a mobile phone.

The service called PIMP (Personal Interactive Media Planner) has been designed to work with Microsoft Media Center PCs, and IceTV plans to make it available for Mac and digital video recorders in the coming months.  It works with all the free-to-air TV channels.

According to IceTV, using either an Internet-enabled mobile phone, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) or any web browser, consumers can:

•    View IceTV’s interactive 7 day TV program guide for all the free-to-air channels
•    Remotely record their favourite shows with one click, at anytime and from anywhere
•    Continuously scan the guide for their favourite shows and record them

The CEO of IceTV, Duncan Ross, commented:  “PIMP gives people back their freedom.  No longer do you have to go home to watch a show when the TV network wants you to watch it.  Now, wherever you are, at the pub, on a train, or at the office, you can program your recorder and the show’s there, waiting to be watched at home when it suits you.”
