The Android 2.2 upgrade for the Motorola Milestone will be available to local users beginning in the first quarter of next year.

Motorola has announced the Asia-Pacific rollout of the Android 2.2 'FroYo' update will begin sometime in the first quarter of 2011.

Changes in the mobile operating system include faster browsing, plus support for Flash Player 10, USB tethering, and 720p video recording, Motorola officials said.

FroYo was announced by Google in May. At the time, Google officials also pointed to higher performance, Exchange support, new enterprise capabilities (eg, provision for applications to manage features such as remote wipe and minimum password length), and improved Bluetooth support.

The delay between Google's release of new versions of Android and its delivery by handset vendors to specific devices such as the Milestone was recently cited by Dimension Data senior security consultant Ed Luck as a security issue that organisations face.
