Aussie makes top 10 in Nokia developer contest

Your IT - Mobility

In case you'd missed it, Apple doesn't own the market when it comes to mobile app development. Nokia's Calling All Innovators contest challenged developers to to create apps that enhance the use of Nokia mobile devices in real-world scenarios. Australian developer Dale Rankine had made the global top 10 for an app developed with the Ovi App Wizard.

Dale earned his spot in the final of the Ovi App Wizard category after developing a fun mobile application for www.toytragic.com, a website dedicated to his passion for collecting toys and other bits and pieces of pop culture. Using Nokia's do-it-yourself dev tool, Ovi App Wizard, Dale created an application on Nokia's Ovi Store that drove traffic to www.toytragic.com by making his site's content mobile friendly.

Dale said, 'The idea for creating the app came from a need to make the content of the site more easily accessible to readers and creating a presence for Toy Tragic in an app store ecosystem. Creating the app using the Ovi App Wizard was a simple process; the web interface is easy to use, and the direct integration with Ovi Store and automatic publishing makes it one of the most straightforward app store platform experiences'.

Dale has been distributing apps, such as Cipher, GRORBS and Pallaggio, in the Ovi Store since its launch in May 2009. As one of 10 finalists he won two new Nokia devices and is now in the running for the top prize of US$5,000 and to be crowned wizard of the apps. The winning app will be the one that receives the most downloads on Ovi Store before the end of August.
