Optus has moved to play down the implications of the copyright ruling on its 'TV Now' service for lucrative deals covering exclusive rights to deliver popular free-to-air content to mobile devices
Virgin Mobile, a wholly owned offshoot of Optus, has just launched its iPhone 4 plans, and as always, is looking to add its own competitive slant to differentiate it from Telstra, Vodafone, 3 Mobile and Optus itself - without the hoopla of midnight launches or masterful chefs.
Offering "Easy caps for iPhone 4" and "Smart caps for iPhone 4", Virgin Mobile's Easy Caps give you "unlimited mobile talk and text to other Virgin Mobile members", "international talk and text included in your plan", "free voicemail in Australia" and an included "monthly data allowance".
There are three Easy Cap plans available at $29, $39 and $49 on a 24 month contract.
The $29 plan comes with a low 100MB of data and $190 of cap credit. Pay $15 per month to get the 16GB iPhone 4 or $35 per month for the 32GB model.
The $39 plan gives you a still low 300MB of data per month and $300 of cap credit, but you only now need to pay $5 per month for the 16GB iPhone 4 or $25 p/m for the 32GB model.
The $49 plan gives you 500MB of data plus $450 of cap credit, with the iPhone 4 16 at $5 per month and a lower $20 per month extra if you want the 32GB model.
Then there's the new "Smart Cap" plans which come with a lot more data, "unlimited standard text in Australia", "unlimited mobile talk to other Virgin Mobile members" and the ability to "rollover your unused cap credit".
The Smart Cap plans are $10 more each than the Easy plans at $39, $49 and $59.
The $39 plan comes with a much, much nicer 1.5GB of data and $190 call cap credit. It will cost you $15 per month if you want the 16GB iPhone 4 or $25 p/m for the 32GB model.
The $49 plan comes with an even nicer 2GB of data and $300 of cap credit. The 16GB iPhone 4 costs $5 per month extra, $20 for the 32GB.
Finally, the $59 plan comes with a nicer still 2.5GB of data and $450 of cap credit. The 16GB iPhone 4 is $0 per month (yes $0) and the 32GB is $18 p/m.
More details for business users apparently due tomorrow, and more details on the Easy and Smart Caps from Virgin Mobile here.
