Free iPhone case? There's an app for that

Your IT - Mobility

Apple has started accepting claims for a free iPhone 4 Bumper or case, but owners will need to start by downloading an app.

As promised by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, the company late last week began accepting claims for free iPhone 4 Bumpers or cases.

The offer was extended to previous and current purchasers as it appears that fitting a case reduces signal attenuation by the user's hand (which can be a problem in areas where the signal is already low) or possibly prevents bridging between the iPhone 4's two antennas.

To claim a free Bumper or case, owners must download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store. The app shows the available cases and any expected shipping delays, and collects the owner's selection and delivery address.

Details of the iPhone 4 case program, including refund arrangements for those who already purchased a Bumper, can be found on Apple's web site.

The current program applies to all iPhones purchased by September 30, 2010. Claims must be lodged within 30 days of purchase, except that those who bought an iPhone 4 before July 23 have until August 22.
