Your IT - Mobility

New voice contracts on 3 will include free access to major social networking sites.

With the growing popularity of smartphones and social networking, Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) is providing free access to Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Linkedin and Foursquare.

The arrangement applies for the life of new postpaid voice contracts (existing customers may start new contracts) , and only covers access within Australia. Access to the sites must be via 3's Planet 3 portal, "mobile web" or the sites' official handset applications.

Amanda Hutton, general manager of Internet and services at VHA said "3 wants to offer Australian customers the freedom of socialising on the go, without having to worry about data costs and download limits. With our new offer of free social networking, people never need to miss another status update again!"

Company officials said that the number of customers using Facebook on their 3 mobile increased by 301% between June 2009 and May 2010, while Twitter users increased by 1600% between October 2009 and March 2010.
