Apple's iPad is worth its weight in gold

Your IT - Mobility

Despite the thousands of people that would be happy just to own a standard iPad, a solid gold version has been produced by a UK jeweller, on sale for $300,000.

British designer and tech aficionado Stuart Hughes created the 22ct iPad, pictured below, with a custom Apple logo studded with 54 diamonds. The one of a kind item has yet to find a buyer.

The fully-functional device is, according to Hughes, a "magnificent combination of top-of-the-industry technology and unrivalled craftsmanship."

Apparently Hughes and his wife Katherine started creating the gadgets eight years ago. He constructed the iPad by casting moulds in the shapes of the devices, before pouring in gold to complete the process, which takes up to six weeks.

The couple have crafted everything from luxury customised phones, like diamond-encrusted Blackberrys, as well as a gold-plated Nintendo Wii 'Supreme' costing $600,000, pictured on the following page.
