Telstra's iPad data deals detailed

Your IT - Mobility

As iPad fever grips the nation, Telstra today announced it will offer dedicated data plans for the iPad 3G in Australia.

Thankfullly all data plans will be available without a contract, meaning customers can activate or cancel a plan at any time.

As previously announced, the iPad will be launched locally on May 28, ranging in price between $629 and $1049. The cheapest 3G equipped model is the 16GB iPad, available for $749. Hype is already at a colossal level, and the telcos are getting in early to fight for consumer dollars.

"Telstra's pricing for iPad 3G gives customers control and flexibility to access the Internet on-the-go while connected to the Telstra Next G network," said Ross Fielding, executive director, Telstra Mobility Products.

"Telstra is providing Australians the ability to enjoy 3G on iPad in more places than on any other network."

It seems Telstra is determined to avoid the mistakes it made with Apple's iPhone. Optus and Vodafone were much quicker off the mark in supporting and offering the device, and Telstra suffered as a result of the phone's surging popularity.

This time around it seems all of Australia's telcos are on board the iPad train, and we can expect similar announcements from 3, Optus, Vodafone and Virgin in the near future.

You can find the plans' prices and data allowances, along with an added bonus for iPad users that choose Telstra, on Page 2.
