Microsoft Communicator reaches out to Nokia smartphones

Your IT - Mobility

The alliance between Microsoft and Nokia has borne fruit in the form of Microsoft Communicator Mobile.

Microsoft Communicator Mobile provides presence information plus 'click to communicate' via instant messaging, email, voice or SMS. The software integrates with the standard Contacts application.

Developed jointly by Microsoft and Nokia, the application is initially available for the Nokia E52 and E72 handsets via the Ovi Store. Support is planned for additional devices including the E5, and the software is likely to be preinstalled on some models.

Microsoft Communicator Mobile is a free app, but requires Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and Client Access Licenses.

"This application provides a much more efficient way of working with others as you can see if someone is busy or available and choose the best way to start a conversation with them," said Emile Baak, managing director of Nokia Australia and New Zealand.

"It also meets the requirements of business and is cost effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable," added Baak.
