Think you've got talent? Put your voice on Ovi Maps

Your IT - Mobility

The free Ovi Voice application from Nokia lets you customise the directions given by Ovi Maps.

There's a growing sub-industry in satnav voices. For example, Tom Tom just announced a series of Star Wars voices, starting with Darth Vader.

But what if you want something more unusual? Nokia's free Own Voice for Ovi Maps lets you record your own navigation instructions. If you don't fancy hearing your own voice, you could always ask your nearest and dearest to do the honours.

Or maybe you'd like a total stranger telling you where to go? The application uploads the finished 'voice pack' to the Own Voice web site, where it can be downloaded by other Ovi Maps users. If you're keen, promote your efforts via Facebook or Twitter.

Nokia officials have indicated celebrity voices will be available, with packs from V8 Supercars drivers Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes coming "soon."

Own Voice is available from the Ovi Store.
