Apple sells one million iPads in 28 days

Your IT - Mobility

Apple says it sold one million iPads in just 28 days - a significant improvement on initial iPhone sales.

Apple released the iPad on April 3, and April 30 saw the purchase of the one millionth unit.

"One million iPads in 28 days — that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

"Demand continues to exceed supply and we're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers," he added. The first part of that statement is certainly true for countries outside the US, with impatient buyers resorting to buying agents and friends making business or holiday trips to the US in order to get their hands on an iPad as soon as possible.

The 'attach rate' for App Store downloads isn't bad, averaging 12 apps per iPad.

But Apple executives might be feeling concerned about iBookstore sales - only 1.5 million ebooks have been downloaded, despite the availability of a range of free titles.

So what's the stumbling block? Please read on.
