iPad 3G ship date announced, also international pre-orders

Your IT - Mobility

Apple has finally revealed the US shipping date for the 3G versions of the iPad. And international customers have been told when they will get their first chance to pre-order the coveted device.

Apple has announced that the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G will be delivered on April 30 to US customers that pre-ordered the device. It will go on sale at US Apple Stores at 5pm the same day.

And at last there's some solid news for international customers: Apple will announce international pricing on May 10, and begin taking online pre-orders that day.

International shipping dates are still vague. All Apple officials are saying is that "iPad will be available at the end of May in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK."

Carriers outside the US (eg, Vodafone/3 and Telstra) have been putting out statements - seemingly orchestrated by Apple - that they will be announcing iPad plans at the end of May.

In the US, AT&T offers two plans: 250MB for $US14.95, or unlimited for $US29.99. Both include access to the company's Wi-Fi hotspots, and are offered on a month-to-month basis (ie, no 12 or 24 month contract lock-in).
