iPad Wi-Fi issues reported by some early buyers

Is there a Wi-Fi fly in the iPad ointment?

The iPad made a splashy arrival in the US over the weekend, but some early adopters are reporting Wi-Fi problems.

A thread labelled "Weak wifi" on Apple's peer-support Discussions forum has attracted 148 messages as of this writing. There are other threads dealing with similar issues.

While some users report signal strength or throughput problems, others say their iPads are working just fine in this respect.

Attempts to marginalise those experiencing the problem as being technically incompetent appear to be misplaced, as a good proportion of those describing problems are comparing the performance of iPads with that of iPhones, MacBooks, iMacs and/or Apple TVs at the same location.

Symptoms common to many of those complaining of the problem include rapid fluctuations in reported signal strength, and lost connections.

What might be causing the problem? Please read on.
