iPad jailbroken within a day

Your IT - Mobility

Using the well-known 'spirit' jailbreak for iPhone v3.1.3, the iPad was jailbroken within a day of its official release.

based on a vulnerability in the Safari web browser, Spirit is the current tool-of-choice to jailbreak iPhones with the v3.1.3 OS.

As the Spirit team expected, this vulnerability also existed in the iPad and was equally amenable for use as a jailbreak conduit.

Twitter user
MuscleNerd announced the break-in at 2:14am yesterday (Eastern Australian time) and later posed a screen-shot and video of the team's work.

The hacking team also observed that the exploit should be extensible to the upcoming 3G iPad, on the assumption that the devices is delayed for regulatory reasons and won't be receiving additional software upgrades.

The usual disclaimers regarding warranty and OS updates apply here in the same way as they still do with hacked iPhones.  Jailbreak at your own risk.
