Skype streamlines hotspot access for Windows users

Your IT - Mobility

Skype has released a new version of Skype for Windows that, among other enhancements, enables users to log into many pay-for-use WiFi hotspots and pay with their Skype credit rather than having to enter their credit card details.

{
This feature, Skype Access, has been available to Mac users since release of the current Mac version (2.8) in July 2009.

Skype says that the feature is available on over 100,000 WiFi hotspots worldwide and that, in contrast to most hotspot charging regimes with minimum time charges, users are charged by the minute, at Euro14 per minute ($A0.29).

The latest version of Skype for Windows (4.2) also includes a new call quality indicator and support for HD video cameras. Skype says the new call quality indicator, in conjunction with some changes behind the scenes "will mean you should get the best call quality ever."

Version 4.2, according to Skype "includes almost everything you'll need to make HD video calls using Skype. As soon as special HD cameras appear in a couple of months time, you'll be able to call your family and friends in crystal clear HD."
