Looking for apps? There's an app for that!

Your IT - Mobility

If you struggle to pick from the many thousands of apps available for the iPhone and iPod touch, an app called Appfinder may assist.

"There's an app for that" is Apple's catchcry when it comes to software for the iPhone.

Even cartoonists have picked up on the plethora of apps.

With so many to choose from, how do you pick?

We know that people are increasingly turning to their social networks to augment or even replace expert advice, so it shouldn't be surprising that someone has come up with an app that taps peer advice when hunting for apps.

Appfinder (free) hooks into Facebook and Twitter to identify your friends' favourite apps as well as those of other Appfinder users.

Users can see particular people's favourites, the most popular apps across their social network, and apps that are popular in their geographical location.

That last caegory is particularly interesting, as apps specific to a local area are unlikely to show up in the App Store charts and are therefore easily overlooked, regardless of how useful they are.
