iPhone 3.1.2 fixes sleep issue

Your IT - Mobility

A new release of iPhone OS is supposed to fix a problem that could stop iPhones from waking from sleep.

Apple describes iPhone OS 3.1.2 as a bug fix and improvement update, applicable to the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch.

(iPhone OS 3.1.1 was only released for the iPod touch.)

Specific issues addressed by 3.1.2 are bugs that could cause the device to fail to wake up from sleep mode, to stop cellular network communication until the handset was restarted, and to crash during video streaming.

The update is installed via iTunes.

For those who choose to jailbreak and/or unlock their iPhones, the iPhone Dev-Team has warned that PwnageTool and redsn0w are not compatible with iPhone OS 3.1.2, and as yet there is no expected release date for compatible versions.

Apple and the individuals behind these and other tools have been in a cat-and-mouse game ever since the iPhone was released. While the outside developers seemed to keep up with Apple for some time, they have yet to find a way of jailbreaking an iPhone 3GS that shipped with iPhone OS 3.1.x.
