Apple senior vice president Phil Schiller then took over to talk about iPods, especially how they work as gaming machines.
Schiller said that there are 607 games available for the Sony PSP and nearly 3,700 for the Nintendo DS, but that there are more than 21,000 games available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
He then brought on a series of game developers to demo their new and upcoming products.
First up was Ubisoft, which showed off a handheld version of Assassin's Creed. The game will be available November 11, the same date as for other platforms.
Other demoed games were Riddim Ribbon, a racing-to-music game from Tapulous, and a Halo-like first person shooter from Game Loft called Nova.
Last on the game developer parade was Electronic Arts, which showed Madden NFL 10. The American football game lets the player use the touch screen to select characters in the game and perform actions.
Schiller concluded by running down the new pricing and models for most of the iPod line. The 8GB iPod Touch now costs US$199, down from $229. The 32GB model costs $299, and there's a new 64GB model for $399.
The hard disk-based iPod Classic got a capacity boost from 120GB to 160GB at the same price point, $249. And the iPod shuffle is available in new colors at $59 for 2 GB and $79 for 4 GB, with a new stainless steel 4GB version available for $99.
