Whereis Navigator leads the way to cheap petrol, avoiding traffic jams

Telstra's Whereis Navigator now offers spoken turn-by-turn directions on GPS-enabled phones. Also new are fuel price information and additional traffic alerts.

Whereis Navigator already brings GPS navigation to certain mobile phones, and the new features add to its capability.

Telstra's premium ($A1.40 plus call charges) 1234 personally-assisted search service now delivers turn-by-turn spoken directions to addresses listed in the Yellow or White Pages.

On request, 1234 uses SMS to send the caller a URL that will generate the spoken directions, which can also be forwarded to a friend via SMS.

"The fact that it now only takes a quick phone call and single click on an SMS link for a Whereis® Navigator customer to be guided via spoken directions to one of thousands of locations across the country is a really exciting development," said Mario Davoli, general manager, Telstra product management.

A new application called Whereis Fuel uses MotorMouth.com.au's fuel price information to help find the cheapest servo in the user's vicinity.

"When teamed with Whereis Navigator's capability to provide turn-by-turn, spoken directions, the Whereis Fuel service allows motorists to easily locate and travel to the nearest and cheapest listed fuel retailer," said Davoli.
