3 reveals iPhone pricing ahead of Friday launch

Your IT - Mobility

Slightly late to the party, 3 has announced its pricing for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The carrier will begin selling Apple's iPhone this Friday, July 17.

3's top-end $110 per month plan delivers a 16G iPhone 3GS for $0 upfront, 3000 minutes of calls, 500 SMS/MMS, and 3G of data within the broadband zone.

Excess data costs 10c per megabyte, and you'll pay 50c per megabyte if you roam away from 3 in Australia.

Prefer the 32G iPhone 32GS? That'll cost an extra $5 per month.

If your appetite for calls and data isn't that great, you can still get a $0 upfront 8G iPhone 3G or 16G iPhone 3GS on the $79 cap ($650 of voice/SMS/MMS and 1G of data). An extra $10 per month gets you a 32G iPhone 3GS.

Right... that's an extra $240 over two years, yet the difference between the two models is only $161 at the Apple Store.

Still too rich for your your taste? There are also $39 and $49 caps, with $150 of calls and messages plus 150M of data, or $350 plus 250M.

If the call allowances are OK but you need more data, add-on packs are offered at $6 for 500M, $10 for 1G, and $20 for 3G (all per month).

How does this compare with Optus, for instance? And what about prepaid? Please read on.
