Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Hotz came to public attention in 2007 when he revealed what was apparently the first method for unlocking the original iPhone while retaining full functionality.
Released on Friday, his new purplera1n Windows-based utility jailbreaks the new iPhone 3GS. That is, it allows the installation and use of software other than that supplied by Apple.
Hotz's announcement took a dig at the iPhone Dev Team's decision to hold back the release of an unlock for the iPhone 3GS.
"But guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn't how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn't worth waiting because you might have the "last" hole in the iPhone. What last hole...this isn't golf. I'll find a new one next week," wrote Hotz.
Following the initial beta release of purplera1n, Hotz and his colleagues have produced an "RC2" version featuring support for Vista, Windows 7, and 64-bit and international versions of Windows. RC2 also included some bug fixes and other improvements.
In related news, the iPhone Dev Team has demonstrated an unlock for the iPhone 3GS, but warns the "injection vector will be lost if you update to 3.1 using the official Apple IPSW, which updates the baseband. So stay away from official 3.1 IPSWs until we release the tools that let you update the firmware without updating the baseband."
