Optus hot to trot with iPhone 3G S announcement

Your IT - Mobility

Optus is the first Australian carrier to announce its intentions for the iPhone 3G S: it'll be ready to go on June 26.

Apple Australia announced this morning that the iPhone 3G S will be available here on June 26, and Optus is the first carrier to announce it will match that date.

But that's all the carrier is saying for now. There's no indication of prices, or the plans that will be offered with Apple's new phone.

"We are not disclosing an details about any plans or pricing for the new handset, but will do so closer to launch," an Optus spokesperson told iTWire.

Apple offered no explanation of the one-week delay in getting the iPhone 3G S to Australia - it's scheduled for a June 19 release in the US.

New features of the iPhone 3G S include improved processing and network speed, longer battery life, a better camera with autofocus, video recording, hands-free voice control, a screen reader for the visually impaired, a digital compass, and support for the Nike + iPod sensor.

It will come with iPhone 3.0 software, which includes the long-awaited copy and paste, a landscape keyboard, voice memo recording, expanded parental controls, Find My iPhone, and Remote Wipe.

Other carriers, including Telstra and Vodafone, are expected to reveal their iPhone 3G S hands in the coming days.
