New prices and plans from AT&T may arrive with the next iPhone. The carrier is also expected to allow tethering.
A tip is circulating that AT&T is planning to slash $US10 from the price of its low-end monthly service plan when Apple releases the next version of the iPhone.
That would take the minimum monthly charge to $US59 in an attempt to widen the market of potential iPhone users.
According to
The Street, the story originates with Cote Collaborative's Michael Cole.
There's a general expectation that the 2009 iPhone will be introduced at the WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC) next month.
Information about the
iPhone 3.0 software was revealed by Apple in March.
At the other end of the spectrum, there are also reports (eg,
MacBlogz) that AT&T is working on a high-end "everything" plan to compete with Sprint's Palm Pre plans.
While this new plan will allow tethering (aka 'handset as a modem') - something currently possible only with a jailbroken iPhone - it may not continue with the current unlimited data offering.
So what is expected instead? See
