Apple announces 100 new features to be added to the iPhone with the forthcoming iPhone 3.0 update, so what's looking good for end users and developers alike? iTWire reveals all...

Although this is actually less of a launch and more a matter of a pre-launch preview of what will be included in the iPhone 3.0 update, it has still been the cause of much speculation amongst Apple fans the world over.

The iPhone OS itself has caught on with developers with just as much enthusiasm as end users it would seem, with a quite staggering 50,000 of them paying to sign up to the Apple developer program for the iPhone.

On top of that, the iPhone SDK has been downloaded more than 800,000 times as well. So perhaps no surprise that there should be more than 25,000 applications available in the iPhone Store as of today.

Apple has revealed that the vast majority of applications submitted for inclusion make it through the approval process, 96 percent to be precise with 98 percent of those getting the much sought after approval notice within a week.

But enough of the introductory spiel, what we all really want to know is if this is a 'major update' as Apple insists, then what is new and exciting in iPhone 3.0?

Well much of the focus has been on the developer side of things, with a year spent working on improvements to the iPhone SDK. In fact Apple is claiming no less than one thousand new APIs for those developers.

Apple is also catering to the developer desire for different business models when it comes to the sale of their products, with the inclusion of the ability to sell additional levels from within a game, magazine style subscriptions and the ability to sell ebooks from within an ebook application bookstore all being included in iPhone 3.0

Of course, all purchases take the buyer back to the iTunes App Store for completion. Developers will, I am sure, be happy to get the ability to create premium and ongoing revenue streams for the iPhone soon.

What else is included in the iPhone 3.0 for both the developer and end user? More exciting news on page 2...
