A variety of stores throughout South East Asia and even Europe (here for instance), have suddenly started offering what appears to be a smaller version of the iPhone – generally dubbed the iPhone Nano.
Never mind the fact that Apple has a winner in the iPhone, the demand for which they cannot yet satisfy, never mind that they have no reason to change the formula. The world has been insisting the iPhone go nano.
It used to be that the cloners would try to offer a knock-off version as soon as possible after the real thing was released. Finally, time has reversed its direction and the clone has arrived before the real thing.
There have yet to be any reports of what this really is (who knows what the chips and firmware might be), I can only assume no-one has actually bought one, but as soon as last week’s MacWorld finished without an announcement, any value they might have had has vanished.
I have to congratulate the clone manufacturers for identifying a potential winner and running with it. Too bad Apple didn’t quite agree. Maybe it’s the ‘bastard’ in me, but perhaps an announcement was deliberately delayed to both irritate the cloners and to enhance the ‘message’ for later effect.
To rephrase my opening statement, “until Apple make an announcement, I have the best iPhone Nano you’ll ever see. Just send money; banking details on request.”
